Obituary of Mrs Valentine STIVER
Grit, Millersburg, Elkhart Co, IN, Thur 7 Dec 1899, p 8:2
Mrs Valentine STIVER died at her late home in Millersburg, Sunday morning from diabetes after a lingering illness thru which she suffered greatly. Her death, while caused directly from diabetes, was hastened by gangrene setting in her foot, necessitating an amputation of 3 toes and a part of the foot. The gangrene was caused from the affection (sic)of kidneys.
Deceased was born at Wilden's Mills, Elkhart county, 7 Aug 1842; died 3 Dec 1899, she was therefore aged 57 years, 3 months and 27 days. She was married 29 May 1866. A husband, 2 sons and 1 daughter, 5 brothers and 2 sisters are left to mourn her demise. The funeral services were held from the Reformed church, of which deceased was a member, yesterday (Wednesday). Interment in Brown's cemetry south of town.
