Obituary of Mrs Emma HATFIELD
Grit, Millersburg, Elkhart Co, IN, Thur 18 May 1899, p 5:2
Mrs Emma HATFIELD, a widow, aged 49 years was killed by Lake Shore freight train No. 71 at Goshen at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mrs HATFIELD was employed at Hotel Hascall and resided on West Water street. She was on her way home via the Lake Shore track when she was struck by the pilot of the engine and almost instantly killed. She was walking in the same direction the train was going and altho the engineer blew a shrill whistle she paid no apparent heed to the alarm. Deceased leaves several children to mourn her deaprture.
