I am looking for the Simmons and Deford families. They resided in Elkhart county from Nov 1837-1840. I am hoping to find something out of one of the old newspapers about either family. My gggrandfather Jeremiah Simmons married Margaret Deford in Elkhart in Jan 6 1837. I am trying to find other Simmons family members who were there at that same time. I know that some were there because I found some old sheriff notices to appear that listed several Simmons as witnesses on some old film at the Elkhart County Genealogical Society in Elkhart. They were in a mixed film with assorted records. I came across them by accident. I also have checked land records, but to no avail. I wont get a chance to go back for sometime. Need help!!!!
