Funeral services for Donald Ray Wate Sr., 73, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was a retired Army veteran and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Graceland Baptist Church, New Albany and a friend at Sunnyside Assembly of God, Jeffersonville. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
Survivors include wife the former Wilma L. King Stucky; four sons, Donnie Wate, Jr., New Albany, George Wate, Whalla, S.C., Billy Hammack, Scottsburg and Glenn M. Hammack, New Albany; four daughters, Patty Wate, New Port Richey, Fla., Bobbi Beyl, New Albany, Paula Yount, New Albany and Paula Mullineux, Carbondale, Ill.; a brother, John Wate, Milford, Mich.; five sisters, Jean King, Taylor, Mich., Vera Deen, Louisville, Millie Best, Greenville, Martha Philpot, Galena and Stella Stark, Macon, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Katherine Wate; a previous wife, Lavetta Wimp Wate; daughter, Norma Clark; two sisters, Mona Nance and Jane Losson; and two grandchildren
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family requests that expression of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.
