Are you in anyway related to the Floyd Co, HOPPERS, or just an extremely nice person? I apologize if I sould have recognized your name, but in any event, thank you.
Several weeks ago, while discussing the HOPPER family with a distant HOPPER relative and fellow researcher, the thought occurred to me that Albert and Martha, the children of Hiram and Sarah (Hiram's 2nd wife), more or less disapperared from the scene after Sarah died in 1860 and Hiram was remarried, this time to Catherine Brown. I discovered in the research that followed that daughter Martha had apparently been sent to live with neighbors in Greenville. I also ran across that 1870 census entry for Albert who, as the data you sent indicates, listed an Albert HOPPER at the right age living with that family in New Albany. But the data indicated that he had been born in KY, which raised doubts in my mind. I also did not know what the entry "bound boy" meant.
Your information from the 1880 census showing Albert HOPPER living in White Co., IN suggests to me that this is indeed our missing Albert, especially since it also shows that his father had been born in Ohio. Hiram HOPPER was not born in Ohio, but lived there for a long time before moving to Indiana and had a significant number of family members, including other sons from his 1st marriage still living there. It would be understandable if young Albert HOPPER believed that his father had been born there. Additionally, Albert is not the most common of names, but Hiram's father was named Albert, and he died in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1845.
