John Joshua (went by Joshua) SPACH/SPAUGH was born 14 Mar 1822, the son of Johann (John) SPACH (1782-1861) and Anna Catharina KNAUSS (1781-1847). The parents are buried at the Bethabara Moravian Graveyard, at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. On 12 Oct 1843 at Stokes County, North Carolina (present day Forsyth Co., NC) Joshua married Christina PETREE, who was born 13 May 1820 in North Carolina. Between 1851 and 1852 Joshua and Christina and their children moved to Missouri and then to Hamilton County, Indiana in c1856. In 1850 the family was listed in the Forsyth Co., NC census; and in 1860, 1870 and 1880 in the Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana Census. In 1900 the widow Christina was living with her daughter Missouri and family in Washington Township. Thus Joshua died between 1880 and 1900, presumably in Hamilton County. Christina died 03 Jan 1901 at Washington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. Does anyone know where Joshua and Christina are buried? Some of their children are buried at the Eagle Creek Cemetery in Hamilton County. Does anyone have the burial records for that cemetery? Around 1850 most of the SPACH family members started spelling the surname as SPAUGH which will be used here.
Joshua and Christina were the parents of seven children, two of whom died young (one of them name unknown). The six known children were:
1. Lydia Katherina (Catherina?) SPAUGH
Was born c1847 in North Carolina and died c1880-1893 in Hamilton Co., IN. She married Harvey M. HAND (Nov 1847-30 Jan 1921) on
13 Aug 1865 at Hamilton Co., IN. Harvey died at Jolietsville, Hamilton Co., IN. Harvey (and Lydia?) is buried at Eagle Creek Cemetery at Hamilton Co., IN. They were parents of three known children: SYLULIA (spelling?) Elizabeth (went by Lizze) HAND (b. 1867) who married 1) to ??? 2) to Thomas Edward (Edd) RILEY; both died at Franklin Co., Nebraska? Sarah Frankie HAND (b. 1868) who married Albert E. BARKER on 18 Feb 1886 at Noblesville, Hamilton Co., IN. Both died at Blue Springs, Gage Co., Nebraska. and Etta (Luetta?) HAND (b. 1872) married Francis E. (Frank) RARTION (RARIDAN?) on 20 Jun 1897 at Hamilton Co., IN. After Lizzie died Harvey remarried to Mary Jane HARVEY (b. Oct 1849) on 08 Mar 1894 at Boone Co., IN. Harvey was the son of Uriah HAND (1818-c1867) and Fanny BISHOP.
2. Sybilla E. SPAUGH was born May 1849 in NC and died 07 Jul 1928 at Boone Co., IN.
Sybilla married Othneil Beeson HARVEY (1847-1927) on 25 Apr 1872 at Hamilton Co., IN. Both buried at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Hamilton Co., IN. Parents of three children: Iva M. HARVEY (b. Feb 1874) married Van H. JOHNSON; William J. HARVEY (b. May 1875) married Ethel RAYL (RAYLE?) and Orris (or Orus?) HARVEY (Dec 1880-1959) who married Josephine RICHERSON. Othneil was the son of William HARVEY (1819-1874) and Cinderella BEESON (1822-1895) who married 13 Oct 1842 at Wayne Co., IN.
3. John E. SPAUGH was born Sep 1851 in Missouri and after Apr 1930. He first married Parintha E. HARVEY (Apr 1852 - c1910-12), who was the sister of Othniel HARVEY, who married John's elder sister. John and Parintha married on 14 Feb 1875 at Hamilton Co., IN. John later married Florence M. RAYLE on 24 Nov 1915 at Hamilton Co., IN. John and Parintha were the parents of Carrie L. SPAUGH (1879-1920) who married James Thomas HINSHAW (1870-1917) in 1901; Dessie M. SPAUGH (b. Feb 1881) who married George Washington OSBORNE in 1915; Ethel O. SPAUGH (1882-1971) who married John LAIN in 1912; Bernie A. SPAUGH (08 Oct 1885-???) who married Pearl L. MABREY (1889-1974) in 1910; Elda Vina SPAUGH (1887-1981) who married Walter P. JOHNSON in 1907; Elva L. SPAUGH (1887-???) who married George BROCK; and Lotis J. SPAUGH (02 Apr 1892-???) who married Ruth OTTINGER (c1899-???) in 1915.
4. Missouri A. SPAUGH was born mar 1852 in Missouri and died 08 Jul 1939 at Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN
She married Sanford M. HARVEY (1848-1929) on 12 Nov 1874 at Hamilton Co., IN. Sanford's brother and sister married Sanford's elder brother and sister. They were parents of Thesel (Thule?) HARVEY (1879-1884); Arthur HARVEY (1881-1959) who married Dessie DAVIS (1880-1946) in 1904; and Perry Doyle HARVEY (1894-???) who married Mary HINSHAW (c1898-???) in 1917 at Hamilton Co., IN. Missouri and Sanford at buried at the Eagle Creek Cemetery at Hamilton Co., IN.
5. William F. SPAUGH was born 1856 in Missouri (or Indiana?) and died between 1860 and 1870 in Indiana.
6. Allen R. SPAUGH was born Sep 1861 at Hamilton Co., IN
He married Florence Bell HAND (Feb 1862-???) on 19 Oct 1882 at Hamilton Co., IN. In 1900 the family was living at Marion, Boone COunty, Indiana. Two children: Arthur John (or John Arthur?) SPAUGH (b. 09 Sep 1884) who married Vernie Ethel FOOTE in 1907 and Ora T. SPAUGH (b. Sep 1886).
I am working on a huge SPACH/SPAUGH family tree. Does anyone have any info to trade on John Joshua SPAUGH and his descendants?
