Hello,
A wonderful discovery of very old family photographs of the Hoffner, Dunsmoor, and Millard families has prompted me to begin the search again for information concerning my
great great grandmother, Jeannette Hoffner Millard, who was born in Ohio bet. 1837 and 1840 and moved with her parents (either Samuel and Anne Hoffner or Jacob and Sarah Hoffner)to Indiana, possibly in the 1850's.
I am also searching for information on her parents whom I still believe to be Samuel and Anne Hoffner who were in Indianapolis in the 1880's, and Samuel is mentioned as being in Ohio in the "HISTORY OF CINCINNATI AND HAMILTON COUNTY" as "... farmer and preacher, (who)lived north of the next alley in a long one-story frame house...) and had made improvments on his land and the nearby roads. Samuel had most likely been born in Pennsylvania as his five brothers had been, and moved to Ohio with his parents, Jacob Hoffner and Mary Magdalene Shuman in 1805. Samuel Hoffner is also listed in "History of Hamilton County, Ohio" as living in Indianapolis by 1880, where he remained for the rest of his life.
His daughter, Jeannette Hoffner, married Elisha Millard in Indiana on April 14, 1861. They were part of the Indiana Colony to Pasadena, arriving in 1875. Elisha Millard, son of Matilda Johnson and Mordecai Mordecai was born in Hancock County, Indiana.
Jeannette Hoffner Millard passed away in February or March of 1925 or 1926 in Pasadena, and is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Altadena. She was survived by her son, Edward Everett Millard, and her two daughters, Delilah Millard and Iva Millard Williams. Other information I have on her is an old photograph of her Aunt Eliza Hoffner Johnson (sister of Samuel and Jacob Hoffner) of Ohio inscribed to her "loving niece Jannette (Jeannette.") If any of this information sounds familiar, I would really appreciate hearing from you. The old photos of the Hoffner, Dunsmoor, and Millard families are absolutely beautiful and very well preserved.
