Could some one look up in birth records if there is any for this person. His father's name was Henderson Holmes and mother was Sarah ? Holmes, She was married before she married Henderson, there was supposed to be two other children a girl Sarah and a boy Henry, then my
gg-great-grand father Edward. This is where the brick wall starts, after he was born they left Ind. and went to Ill. and Iowa( but can find no records of the Holmes family) Edward entered the Civil war in Ill. and his father went and brought him back home and later Edward went back and this time he went in under the name of Stephen A. Lawson, and when the war was over and he signed up for his penison he had to tell them that his real name was Edward Holmes. When I go back to where he was born the only Family I can come up with is a family of Henderson Lawson, wife Sarah, and they moved to Ill, and Iowa, but I can not find any info on this family after the war and this is where Edward Holmes's name shows up on the census.
A relative of mine sent me the deposition of Eward Holmes that he gave to the goverment to get his penison
and he said all of this in it, but I can not find his family before the war and his parents were supposed to have died before he got home from the war.
Could someone please help me in find this info, as I am trying to do all of this for my mother ( all of her family is just about gone).
Thanks
Janet Doughty Butler
