I thought it unusual that one man had 10 thousand acres of land in Ohio. Since e-mailing you last I have started reading the book, The FRONTIERSMAN by Allan W. Eckert. In this book Ben Stites is named as a surveyor in 1780's. I have ancestors named in this book. Purhaps this Ben is your ancestor.
