Searching for anyone with ties to the Amish community that once existed in Newton and Jasper County, beginning about 1870's. The last Amish person in the community still is alive and lives in Rensselaer, although attending a Mennonite Church. The following are some of the names connected to the Amish church and living in the Newton-Jasper county settlement: Helmuth, Hochstetler/Hostetler, Miller, Leichty, Chupp, Kauffman, Nissley, Anderson, Troyer, Yoder, Harshberger, Stutzman, Mullet, Beachy, Bontrager, Eicher, Gingerich, Overholt, Schrock, Schwartz, and Stoll. Anyone with ancestors in the Miller (Amish) Cemetery-would love to exchange information with you.
