Seek information on JAMES DAVENPORT/DEVENPORT who first appeared in Saluda Twp. Jefferson County, Ind 1827 Tax list. He is listed with 1 poll, 1 horse,state tax: 37 1/2cents, county tax: 25 cents, total tax: 62 1/2 cents. He shows up in the 1830 census, Jefferson County in the age range of 40 to 50, living in the household is another male 20 to 30( Is it possible he could be James?)two males from 5 to 10 and one female 30 to 40.
Have not located the family in 1840. However, in 1845 JOHN DAVENPORT married MELINDA MCCARTY in Jefferson County and the family is found there in the 1850 census. John was born in Ky as was his mother, Mary, who is living in the home. John died in Indianapolis 26 June 1867 at age 45 on of consumption.
