I am wondering about what would have been going on in the area during the civil war? I have a Michael and Josephine Schnittspahn Geyer living there until the war's end and then they leave. They had land there and eventually end up in Milwaukee without much of anything. I'm trying to understand why, after moving there from Germany in about 1859, they would leave so soon(1865). In fact there is a stained glass window in the church there that says Geyer and that they paid for, at least that is my understanding. I don't know much about them and would love to find a trail.
