One way to find a cemetery

UsGenWeb is certainly a good place to look for a cemetery. Here's another method I discovered recently thanks to the Genealogy Guys podcast (http://genealogyguys.com/): search for your cemetery in the US Geological Survey (USGS) database.

The USGS has a project called Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=135:1:7761382110480552239

On the query form, choose the State of Indiana, county of Knox, and Feature Class of Cemetery and do your search.

Unfortunately, I did not find a Fort Hill Cemetery (found a Sand Hill cemetery, though). That's not to say that they may have your cemetery listed under a different name. Also, I know for a fact that they are missing cemeteries as I know certain cemeteries to exist that are simply not listed in their database. The other cool thing is that they include latitude/longitude coordinates. Theoretically, you should be able to go to some of these mapping services (Map Quest, Google Earth, etc.), feed in the coordinates and get driving directions.

Anyway, maybe that will help for future searches.

Brad
