My gggfather David Cummings and his brothers William and Major Cummings were together in LaGrange County in the 1840 census, although David had been just north in Branch County MI in 1835 and was back there in 1850, along with most of his family. Perhaps they had a store which is mentioned in the County History. I've had no luck finding the families of William or Major (who may have used the spelling Cummins)in Indiana or elsewhere, but they both had children, and were older than David who was born in NY circa 1797.
Their sister, Sarah (Sallie) Sutherland White was in Lawrence County in the same time frame.
I'd like to find some kin!
