Hello,

I am researching the family of Moses Bullock and Amanda Ragan.

Moses Bullock was born in New York on 11 June 1811 and died in Lake County, Indiana on 25 October 1873. He married Amanda Ragan on 19 June 1849 in La Porte County, Indiana. Amanda Ragan Bullock was born 3 January 1828 in Ohio and died on 28 July 1898 in Lake County, Indiana.

I do not know who the parents of Moses were. Amanda Ragan was the daughter of George Ragan and Jemima McFarland.

Their children:

Simeon Bullock, born July 1850 in La Porte County, Indiana
Gilbert Bullock, born 14 June 1852 in La Porte County, Indiana
Asa Bullock, born 17 August 1855 in La Porte County, Indiana
Ruth E. Bullock, born 1860 either in La Porte County or Lake County, Indiana.

Additional information:

Moses Bullock was born in New York June 11, 1811; he obtained most of his education at home, having to commence farm work when very young; when he was about sixteen years of age, he was put to the trade of carpentering, and surveying he learned also, and when twenty years old came to La Porte County, Ind., where he worked as carpenter for some years, and also surveyed the first railroad passing through to La Porte County. On June 19, 1849, he was married to Amanda Ragen, daughter of George and Jemima (McFarland) Ragen. Their union was blessed with four children—Simeon, Gilbert, Asa and Ruth H. (now married to William Josiah Halladay), of Valparaiso. On March 18, 1860, he purchased a farm of 160 acres in Section 13 of Ross Township, on which he resided and raised all kinds of stock in conjuction with farming. After a short illness, on October 25, 1873, he died, universally esteemed and regretted, leaving a widow and four children; his widow lives on the homestead with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Halladay. Mr Bullock was a Freemason, also a Jacksonian Democrat.

Gilbert Bullock was born in La Porte County, Ind., June 14, 1852, and is the second of four children born to Moses and Amanda (Ragan) Bullock, the latter in Ohio in 1830; they were married in Indiana in 1849. Gilbert Bullock was reared on his father’s farm, working in summer and attending school in winter, until nineteen years of age. On Christmas Day, 1876, he was married to Estella Markham, a daughter of Armala and Emily E. (Thronton) Markham, of Michigan. To this union were born two children—Hubert, born October 17, 1877, and Claude E., September 7, 1879. Previous to his marriage, Mr. Bullock had bought forty acres of improved land, with good frame house and outbuildings; to this land he continued to make additions until now he has 160 acres of good soil; is engaged in farming and stock-raising. In the spring of 1882, he was elected Justice of the Peace for four years. He is a Liberal Democrat, and an enterprising and valued citizen.

I would like to hear from anyone connected to these families. Thanks.

Steve
