When Davis and Hester Ryan's daughter Velma Blanche (or Blanche Velma) married in 1903, she put on her application that her mother's maiden name was Hester Johnson. I'm not sure whether that application is still in existence at the Madison County Clerk's Office--I've heard conflicting information--but it was in existence in the early 1930's and the information was abstracted by the WPA.

Unfortunately, that's all the help I can give. There doesn't appear to be a death record for Hester Ryan at the Madison County Board of HEalth. The Madison County courthouse burned in 1880, so their marriage record was destroyed in that fire. I checked to see if there was notice in a surviving newspaper, but there wasn't.

I hope this helps.
