Hi Rebecca,
Thank you for your suggestions about finding this marriage information. Since I made my initial post I have done some research in city directories for Indianapolis, IN and it appears that the date would have been about 1936. Their first child was born in 1942 so I don't think they eloped because of her pregnancy.
The idea that they eloped for another reason is probably correct and I have assumed that I would find their marriage in an adjoining state. They didn't have much money so I don't think they would have traveled far.
Louisville, Kentucky, Daville, IL, or another close by location are suspects.
