Connie,
Thank you for responding to my posting. I think there is something to this informationn. Much of the information fits facts I have. However, there are TWO story lines with Michael Rodney/Michael Redmann.
One story is that Michael's parents had three children, Michael, Joseph, and a daughter who died in a fire. The parents died in 1853 of Yellow Fever. The boys set off from Bayou Sara and were taken to New Orleans where a family by the name of Stumpf took in the younger child, Michael. Michael would have been around 4 years old at the time. Joseph, the older boy, somehow got separated from Michael--only to meet many years later by chance.
Second story line has Michael returning to Louisiana approximately 32 years after he went to the Civil War, where he found his mother still alive, his father deceased, and his brothers. !! This is the information you sent me. This story would work IF the mother and brothers refer to a FOSTER family-the Stumpf family which raised him after his birth parents died. This is the reason I NEED to find out more information on the Stumpf family in New Orleans in the mid 1850s. Also of great help would be to have more information on the birth parents. A CORRECTION to my original posting: The families in Lousisiana, descendants of Joseph Redmann, believe Michael Rodney of Indiana to be Michael Redmann, brother to Joseph Redmann of Louisiana. Michael Rodney is my great grandfather and I had always heard "parts" of the story relating to the Civil War. However, I had NOT learned of a possible name change until the last month. It was a shock to have someone tell me my name was not Rodney, but Redmann. It doesn't change who I am, but I have a need to know, to understand the truth. Thank you for any and all information that may help guide me to the truth.
