I am seeking descendants of Charles Christ, b. 1850, who I believe emigrated from the Thur Valley of Alsace, France from either Fellering or Bitschviller-les-Thann to Ohio, living at Shawnee, Corning, and Columbus until he "disappeared." He married Philumena "Minnie" Frances Schmelzer, daughter of Anselm Schmelzer and Margarethe Keller. I believe I have found Charles Christ aboard a ship, City of Antwerp from Liverpool to NYC, arriving Aug. 31, 1871 with Catherine that may be an older sister, b. 1842. His occupation is given as miner. In 1879 his naturalization gives Ambroise Larger as his sponsor. Ambroise was born in Fellering, Alsace France and was the same age as Charles. In the 1880 census for Corning, Perry, Ohio Charles Christ's occupation is given as blacksmith. I think by then he was working for a railroad. He is listed as a Blackmsith in an 1890-91 city directory for Columbus, Ohio living on Arsenal Street. At the same address is Miss Rena (his sister Catherine?) who is a teacher at the Imbecile Asylum. Children by Minnie include: Charles (later living in Canada), Paul R. died in Bloomington, Illinois, railroad worker; Catherine who married John W. Scholl at Washington, Daviess, Indiana; William of Danville, Illinois and later Chicago, Joseph of Davenport, Iowa; Frank (Francis Sylvester) of Huntington, West Virginia, and John Anthony Crist, my grandfather, of Cumberland, Alegany, Maryland, who was a chiropractor.
