John is pretty consistent in census records saying he was born in Indiana.

In 1910 there is also a William D. Rehmel living in Jackson, Sullivan, IN, born about 1868 in Indiana - probably a brother. There's also a Henry Rehmel in some of the censuses in Sullivan county who was born about 1850 in Ohio.

I can't find John prior to this. I suspect he's part of the Rehmel family that is living in Sullivan and Clay county but can't find him on the 1880 census. Have you sent for his death certificate or an obituary?
