While I couldn't find anything specific to Frank's ancestry, I did check out census and found a few others by this this surname (soundexed). Seems to me that he probably would have some relationship to these folks. I've included such info below, and maybe by finding more on them you'll be able to locate where and how your Frank fit in.
As you will see, there is a suggestion that this family may have come from Schuylkill County, PA. If that is so, then you may be in luck because I think I recall hearing that they have a great archives section and the folks there were quite helpful.
