Mary Jane Rodman KY/IN and mysterious deaths

My ancestor is Mary Jane Rodman who (according to her newspaper obituary) was born in Kentucky on 22 Apr 1822. She later moved to Indiana and married Elijah Walton Harper on 15 Sep 1845. She died in Gibson County, Indiana on 07 April 1902 and is buried in the Forsythe Cemetery there. Can anyone provide information on Mary Jane Rodman's ancestors?

In the same family bible that holds Mary Jane Rodman's newspaper obituary, there is a strange handwritten entry. It reads:

        Died
       Samuel Rodman 11
       Rebeca Rodman 16
       William Rodman 18
       Roda Rodman 19
       Eliza Rodman 21
       Sarah Rodman 25

       all Dead in January
       in the year 1842

I've been told that these deaths were somehow caused by a sick cat that was taken in. Can anyone shed some light on these deaths and on the relationship of the deceased to Mary Jane Rodman?
