Hello John: This message may assist only by eliminating one person from your search. In Martha Rasmussen's response to your query, she mentioned a James Farner born ca 1818. This James Farner is part of my file. James Farner was born February 1, 1817, in Tennessee. I do not know where. He married Hannah Shelby November 30, 1839, in Parke County, Indiana. He died in 1878 in Parke County, Indiana, and was buried in Harvey Cemetery, Parke County, Indiana. He and Hannah had only one child, a female named Maria.

I do not know whether this James Farner had brothers and I also have been unsuccessful in discovering the names of his parents. While this James was not the father of your James Farner, whether he was an uncle of your James Farner or otherwise related to him remains to be discovered. I strongly suspect some sort of familial kinship.

Since my primary research interest is the SHELBY surname, I have not further investigated the Farner lineage.

Good luck with your research.
