You may be right about the coal mining, but give me a little time and I will check out what I can find for you. My husband doesn't believe there was any surface mining close to Goldwait. I think it was just a little settlement, as was Survant, just up the railroad tracks to the east of Goldwait. When people came into this part of Pike county, as my ancestors did, mostly they farmed or worked on a farm for someone else. So I believe what we will find is it just simply vanished as people either moved into the town of Winslow, to some other town, or perhaps another state. I am happy to do this for you and hope I will be able to give you a better description of Goldwait, if anyone around can help with information. Many of the town's old-timers have passed, but with some luck, maybe we can find some information.
