The following has been a mystery to me for years, so I thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone has any insight into "the rest of the story." My grandfather, Tilman Tevault (11 Apr 1877-24 Mar 1959) had been divorced from my grandmother for many years prior to his death. He is buried in the Spurgeon Cemetery next to the United Methodist Church. I was never able to visit his grave until around 1985, and when I was able to find it, I found that he shares a headstone with Callie J. Ferguson (10 Jan 1878-20 Apr 1903). An interesting inscription appears on the headstone shared by Tilman and Callie. It reads: "The reason this occurs is that vows made in life can only be broken by death." I take this to mean that Tilman and Callie had every intention of marrying and spending the rest of their lives together, however she died before they could be married. Tilman apparently was true to Callie for the remainder of his life. Of course, this is just a guess on my part. By the time that I found this, everyone in my immediate family who would have had any knowledge of this had passed. As I said earlier, I just thought I'd toss it out there to see if there is anyone out there, perhaps someone from Callie's family, that might have some knowledge of this situation. Thanks, Mike Tevault Notify Administrator about this message?
