Terryl, excerpts from Tucker's History:
SAMUEL DOWNING, M.D., was born in Chester Co., S.C., April 6, 1805; his parents were John and Margaret. The father died in 1870, aged nineth-three years, and the mother about 1866, also very old. Dr. Downing was one of eight children. His father came from South Carolina to Bourbon Co., Ky, in 1813, to New Paris, Proble Co., Ohio, in 1815, and to Darke County, Ohio in 1817, which latter point became his permanent residence, Samuel Downing being then twelve years old. Samuel married Elizabeth Baird in 1829. They had ten children. ... In 1859, he made an extended tour into Missouri. ... He returned to Randolph County in 1870 from Northern Michigan and died July 7, 1871.

There is a paragraph which runs about 1/4 page in Tuckers. What info are you seeking?
