Descendents of George and Joseph Ingles/Ingels
I am a descendent of George Ingels through his son Joseph Ingels who married Nancy Crooks.
I want to challenge several ideas that have been suggested about George and Joseph Ingels. I have done a fair amount of research on Mary Draper Ingles who was made famous bythe book, Follow The River, and other books and stories that have been written about hercaptivity and her escape from captivity by hostile indians.
I have been reviewing John P. Hale's book, Trans-Alleghaney Pioneers. He is a descendent of Mary Draper Ingles and William Ingles. Hale makes the connection between William Ingles and a Thomas Ingeles who immigrated to the US from Scotland, Ireland and England. Later, he goes into a fair amount of detail regarding the descendent of William and Mary Draper Ingles. I reviewed the names carefully and found no names that appear to be the descendents of George and Joseph Ingels. I had hoped to make a connection. I now believe that no such connection exists. I would be pleased to receive any evidence that makes the connection.
I challenge a second idea that has been floating around. Several researcher have identified the wife of George Ingles as Mary Ramey. I have never found a single bit of evidence to verify this assertion. I think someone made a mistake or a guess and other researchers have accepted it. There are some church records from PHiladelphia that list a marriage of George Ingels to some other woman - not to Mary Ramey.
