The correct (Scottish) pronunciation is "INGALLS". The surname is understood to be a corruption of "English" and is more prevalent in the lowlands of Scotland.
Whilst there is no Inglis clan as such, we are in fact a sept (sub-clan) of the Douglas family. In addition to the right to wear the Douglas tartan as members of that clan, there is also an Inglis tartan.
