Hi, my name is Kathryn Inglis, I married James Inglis in Australia in 1978.
My husbands family emigrated to Oz from Scotland in 1956 on the Strathnaven.
It is pronounced Inglisssss here as well, although my mother-in-law was old fashioned and said it should be "Ing-gulz" but I think my father-in-law and husband ( 9 years old at the time) probably felt it would fit in better in this country if pronounced the way it looks.
Apparently my father-in-law had enough trouble at the time of arrival with his accent. When he arrived at Outer Harbour in Adelaide South Australia he went to a shop and asked for a packet of champion ruby tobacco and papers and the young girl serving handed him an ice cream!!
Hope you enjoy this message.
