This is quite a jump back, but it might help you. I have a copy of a page from a book "The Ancestors of David Spence" which mentions the following:

David bought land in Northumberland Co., VA in 1664. "He married Anne Rowe there before April 1665. Anne, as noted above, is believed to be the daughter of John Rowe (Roe) and Ann Inglis. John Rowe was born about 1611 in Durham, England and died after 1653 in Northumberland County, Virginia. He was the son of Edward Roe, born about 1580, and Elizabeth Pattison,born about 1584 in South Shield, Durham, England. David and Ann were step-cousins,with Ann the niece of David's step-mother, Anne Rowe, his father's second wife. They would have known each other from childhood."

In the next paragraph there is mention of a James Dashiell (an old Maryland name) as being a relative of David's wife Anne.
