Edward Smith (mother's maiden name "Ingo")

Edward Smith was my husband's grandfather, who lived in Hibbing, Minnesota from the time he and his wife immigrated to the US until he died in 1941. He was born in Vasa, Finland, in 1865. We have reason to believe that his real surname had been Ingo, but he changed it when he came to the US for mysterious reasons. Any knowledge of this person would be appreciated.
