I'm interested in C. Jackson Inks, and hope some of you Inks researchers can help me. I am interested in a daughter of C. Jackson Inks, who according to the Memorial and Biographical History of Northern California, married John Ramer Houseworth (I am researching the Houseworths). The book does not give her name, but says that she was born in TN, daughter of Jackson Inks of TN; that her father came to California in 1849 and brought his family in 1854; that they lived near Red Bluff, the mother died in 1859 and the father in 1860, and their children were sent to Arkansas to be educated, but returned to California in 1866. This unnamed daughter first married J.G. West, and after his death remained a widow for 10 years before marrying J.R. Houseworth.
Now, in 1880 J.R. was single, and living in Colusa Co. with his brothers; although the book mentioned above says he moved to Butte Co. (it's the neighboring county) in 1889, in 1900 he is again living with a brother in Arbuckle, Colusa Co., but this time he is listed as married for 8 years--no wife with him, though. However, there is a 49-year-old Minnie Houseworth in prison in Butte Co. (born in Arkansas to parents from TN), though listed as a widow. Brief articles I have found indicate she was charged in 1899 with forgery and perjury for writing a will purportedly by Alfred Fuller leaving his fortune to her. One says she used to be a resident of College City (near Arbuckle). Another brief item in a Fresno paper in 1891 mentions a fire that burned down a house and two barns belonging to "Mrs. JR Houseworth" on "the old West ranch" near Dayton (Chico area).
I think all of this is the woman I am looking for, but I cannot find her on any census but 1900, not as Inks or West. Nor can I find any entry to fit J.G. West. (Though there is a 29-year-old widow named Sarah West living in a hotel in Chico in 1880, parents from Arkansas, occupation "rents her farm", who could be a fit for Minnie, apart from different first name).
Can anyone offer any insights into this family?Does anyone have a list of the children of C. Jackson Inks? And where they were in 1860, 1870, and 1880? Any clue would be very welcome!
