Difference in name spelling "Volentine 'vs' Valentine"

My gt. gt. grandfather was born in Ireland and named Valentine Livington. There's a branch of his family that insists on calling him "Volentine", which is probably wrong.
I cannot convince them to change it. Any suggestions? Or am I wrong? :-)
