Female relatives who left Ireland

Apologies for posting at such a busy time of year! I was hoping some of you may be able help spread the word about an event I am holding as part of a bigger creative work which is forming part of my PhD. I have detailed this project below but in summary I am asking for help in making requests for those with an Irish woman in their past (or indeed themselves) who migrated from Ireland to contribute their name to the art work. I know that some people on this board are already familiar with the work and thank you for their continued support!

At the start of December I will be having a small event at Film City (the old Govan Town Hall), Glasgow, which is located near the Bromielaw where the majority of boats arriving into Glasgow would have moored. Adding to the creative work which I have been making (see irishwomeofourpast.co.uk) I am asking people to submit names of female relatives who left Ireland for other lands who I will then represent on the evening of the 4th December with a candle which I will burn within a designed sculptural space. Whilst they are burning I will have the names of the women and the places which they left captured in a subtle video work. I will also be filming the burning candles and streaming online for those with a password being able to see the event from any location, allowing them to witness the flame burning for their relation. I have also recently made a trip around Ireland with the original candle which I lit for my own grandmother in Donegal, lighting it at the major ports which other women would have left from. This will in time become documented through an interactive web-video work. I intend to have this candle burning amongst the ‘sea’ of other candles on the evening of the installation.

My research is a response to the narrative of my grandmother who left Donegal in the 1930’s to find work in Ireland. Drawing upon both family stories and also the wider social histories of other women who made similar journeys due to the circumstances which faced them. Through the work I am creating I am hoping to create spaces which artistically explore and open up dialogues surrounding this area, initiating opportunities for the wider Irish Diaspora to engage in creative embodied memorial acts. I have recently been interviewed about the project which perhaps encapsulates the project better than this end of the day waffle! This can be found here - http://www.thewildgeesegenealogy.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/book-of-names-is-internet-based-project.html

As a bit more background I have been advertising and asking people around the world to submit names of women in their past who have made such journeys. These names have been forming part of an online collection of names and memories (irishwomenofourpast.co.uk).

I was hoping you may be able to advertise this project through any networks or newsletters you may run?
Names can be submitted via my email address – Rachael.flynn@uws.ac.uk, through Twitter @irishwomenpast, through Facebook messages, through my website http://www.irishwomenofourpast.co.uk/submitting-your-story.php or via my postal address –
