This is what I have on Nancy Neel and Jonathan Ireland:

Jonathan Ireland, b. 1801 in Harrison County, (West) Virginia; died in Jefferson County, Iowa. Married Nancy Neil/Neal about 11 Oct 1826 in Harrison County, Virginia. The Marriage Bond was posted on 11 October. 1826, signed by Lewis Rose and Jonathan Ireland. I have a copy of the bond.

The fact that the bond was signed by Lewis Rose might mean Nancy Neal was a widow or she was an orphan and Rose was her guardian, or?? Jonathan Ireland was 25 when they married, so she could have been married previously. There are scant records for Lewis Rose and his family. They may have been recent arrivals in (Wes) Virginia, or just had a low profile. There are scant records for the Neal family also.

It is worth noting that an Alexander Neal and his family lived in Frederick County, Maryland in the 1790 Census as did Alexander and Jonathan Ireland, who subsequently moved with their families to Harrison County, Virginia.

The Guernsey County, Ohio Courthouse has a record for a Deed for Jonathan Ireland. This listed Jonathan Ireland and wife; Grantee James Rhinehart. In this deed Jonathan Ireland and his wife Nancy [Nancy Neal?] sold 84 acres in Guernsey County to James Rhinehart for $900. The land was in Sec 18 of TWP 1, Range 2 in Richland Township. The deed copy indicated that Nancy Ireland only made her mark, indicating that she was not fully literate. This Jonathan Ireland was presumed to be a son of Alexander Ireland, Junior.
Jonathan Ireland may have been living in Guernsey County, Ohio in 1840 with his wife and 3 sons and a daughter. Both Jonathan and his wife were age 30 to 39, which agrees with what is known of them at that time.
