Ireland of Somerset and Dorset, England 18th C
Thomas Ireland Perry married first Ann Dommet in Haselbury Plucknett in 1764 and secondly Anne Edmunds in Crewkerne in 1775. At his first marriage he used the middle name of Ireland, though none of his children (all daughters so far as I am aware) did. Thomas was a butcher and it seems far to me to be far too early for the “Ireland” to be a middle name in the modern sense and I think it must be an “alias” in the old fashioned way. I wonder whether anyone researching the Ireland family has noticed any other Ireland alias Perry (or vice versa) or any connection with the Perry family which might give rise to the form being used?
