I too are trying to find the ironsides in my family. My great grandparents James Cruickshank and Mary Taylor tended to call their children after grandparents. Hence I came acrosss the family link as my aunty was Margaret Ironside Cruickshank. This led me to hunt for the connection and low and behold my great grandmother Mary Taylors mother was Margaret Ironside. As far as I am aware she was married to Alexander Watt on 28th June 1842 and a lady from australia who i been talking to seems to think her parents were Alex Ironside and sophie Alex. Ironside Sophia Lillie, who lived at Burnthill Bonnykelly farming 116acres. I wasn't sure where or when Margaret Ironside was born but recently found details of a Margaret Ironside born on 11 June 1815 in Bonnykelly, New Deer, aberdeenshire. But the problem is the parents are I am currently stuck at this point. She may have brothers and sisters and they could have been related to your grandmother...When was she born and when did her parents emigrate?

Please keep in contact and let me know what you find.

regards from a fellow researcher and possibly family member
