Hi - I am an Isbister who has traced my ancestry back to Harray, Orkney. My grandfather Isbister was one of 12 children and the only one to come to the US. My great grandfather's name was James and he married Elspeth Groundwater - so I assume we are not closely related. I traveled to Orkney a few years ago and knocked on farmhouse doors looking for relatives and I found cousins! Orkney is an unusual place. The cousins we met and fell in love with came to America for the first time to visit us this past summer and they had the time of their lives - they have a 10 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. We took them to our cottage in Wisconsin to see how farming was done up there (they are farmers and Alton is also in the plumbing business there so they do quite well.) We live in Chicago so of course the sites here were magnificent for them all to see. We then took them to our condo in Naples Florida for a week then drove them over to DisneyWorld where they stayed for a few days then took off for Orkney. We are planning a trip back to Orkney next August with other relatives of ours from CA & NY who flew in to meet them while they were here. While in Orkny I saw where my grandfather was born and lived among many other exciting adventures. Even tho we may not be related closely I would love to hear from you - as you know - growing up with the name of Isbister in this country was not easy and I would love to hear from a kindrid spirit. Best Regards, Nancy
