Isbister does come from the Orkney Islands. The name came into being in the 1500's. I can trace my ancestry to the first Isbister. The spelling has varied over the years. However, Isbister is the most common spelling of the name these days. However, I do have some cousins in Canada who spell the name Isbester, due to a misinterpretation of the writing when their ancestor first went to Canada. All the descendants of the other members of the family spell the name Isbister.
