I came to this forum specifically to try to sort out the Hester Williams/William Isler marriage so I'll copy and paste a message I just posted to the Williams forum.

This whole Hester Williams thing is such a mystery to me.

I'm trying to sort out my ancestor, Hester Williams, and her ancestry.

For years I had been thinking she was the daughter of John Williams and Ferebee Savage Pugh.

Then I found out that a lot of people say that the daughter of the Williams-Pugh union married a man named William Isler.

Therein lies the problem.

My Hester Williams would have had to marry a William Whitfield III.

William Whitfield, III was born 1 June 1743 in Rockford, Lenoir County, NC.

His wife, Hester Williams, age is not given. I'm assuming she was born around 1743 or so. Some have said that her father was Joseph Williams of Duplin County. Others have said it was John & Ferebee. I'm wondering if she could be the daughter of Anthony Williams of that same region.

Three questions...

1) What proof is there to solidify the fact that Hester Williams, daughter of John Williams & Ferebee Pugh, is the Hester who married William Isler?

2) Does anyone know anything about the Hester Williams who is a daughter of Anthony Williams (Anthony died in 1752 and his daughter, Hester, was still a minor at the time)? She had a sister named Pherebe among several others, so the use of the name Ferebe/Pherebe could easily come from her as well.

3) Does anyone know anything about establishing proof for the fact that Joseph Williams of Duplin County even had a daughter named Hester?
