I am of Swiss heritage. In Switzerland by all accounts the name isler is most prevelant in Pffaikon Switzerland, however many in Basel also. I doubt that the name is prevalent in Germany as it is not a German word.
There are indeed many Swiss Isler's in the Carolina's as the orginal Sec/Trea of the DeGravenroot society ( a soceity of approximatly 800 German's who founded the Carolina's) both north and south (they where one then) was a salaried professional from Switzerland who was promised a plantation after serving as the profesional administrator for a number of years .his land grant is now the city of Easley NC. he is credited with being the first person to demand the King of England grant the colonies independence. Hope this helps
