Thanks for your reply, Jim. I stopped by your website, it's nicely done. Do you have confirmation of Nicholas Isler's name spelling? You certainly have some indications that he might have been Swiss. What little I've read indicates that most early 18th century Palatines probably stuck close to something familiar. Certainly, settling New Bern would be consistent with a Swiss background. And of course, many Palatines were actually Swiss, not German.
