I am related to the brother of Thomas Jaap, George Jaap. Over the years I have collected some records related to Thomas Jaap, inclucing his death record which states his father's name as Walter Jaap. I also have a copy of the Parochial Relief application that Thomas' son, George filled out in 1862, when he applied for assistance because of his bad eyes. Let me know if you are interested in copies.
Jane Jaap and Walter Ramsay's birth record for their daughter in 1855 has a lot of interesting information on it:
Jane Ramsay, born November 27, 1855 at 3:00 AM in Csuseyside, Fullarton.
Father: Walter Ramsay, coal miner, age 41, born at Farm(?), Rutherglen. Married in 1849 in Glasgow. Father of 4 boys and 3 girls living, and 2 boys deceased.
Mother: Jane Ramsay, maiden name Jaap, age 36 years, born in Barony Parish. Her 4th child.

I have a chart on the family tree of Thomas Jaap that was sent to me years ago by a lady in Scotland.
