Jacka Ancestry

Anyone with the Jacka surname is almost certainly of Cornish ancestry. There has been some speculation that the name has been altered from the French name Jacques which is entirely possible considering Cornwall's proximity to the Channel Islands and Brittany. One of my great great grandmothers was Maria Jacka. Her grandfather was Tobias Jacka who was born in Cornwall in 1762. He married Maria Crossman. Among their children was Elias Jacka who married Rebecca Courtise. Born in Cornwall, they died in Mineral Point, WI. They were part of the influx of Cornish miners to the Wisconsin Territory during the mid 19th century.
