Hello... I, too, am a Yakel, and there is a story that passes around our table about how the name of Yakel changed from something like Jackel or Joeckle or however it is spelt... Apparently i have a great great great great great great uncle (i dont know the years, or anything) who was coming to homestead in Northern wisconsin. He was quite fond of the bottle, and on his way to sign his land lease he stopped at a few bars. By the time he got there, he was too intoxicated to write his own name, so someone else had to do it for him and it has been spelled Yakel ever since. Any insight? let me know.
