Hi Allison,
I'd be interested in what your aunt has to say. My family in Milwaukee, WI kept the JEKEL/JAEKEL/JAECKEL spelling, while the NY family changed to the YAKEL spelling. I do know that there were at least 3 separate JAEKEL families in the Milwaukee area besides my own. Here in Albany, NY, there were also at least three YAKEL families - one Lutheran and 2 Catholic (including my own line). can you drop a note on the WI YAKEL's and give me some background info?
