Howdy Sue, Lester Gray Jackett, who was born in Sept 6, 1889 in Giltner, was the son of George E. (born Dec 10, 1845, in Lake County, Illinois and died in Giltner on Sep 14, 1923) and Mary E. Cameron Jackett (born Nov 10, 1848, in Waterloo, Scotland, and died in Giltner March 10, 1930). Lester and his wife, Bessie Wright, had a farm sale in Hamilton County near Giltner on Nov. 14, 1923, and then a house sale on Dec 22, 1923. They eventually moved to San Francisco, Calif., where he died Feb. 10, 1960. Don't know their marriage date, but they had a son, LeRoy born Dec 23, 1917, and two daughters, Margie Craddick, and Mary Hottal. George E. Jackett (son of Michael and Mary Knapp Jackett) and Mary E. Cameron were married in Verona, Dane County, Wis., on March 21, 1871, and they honeymooned in covered wagon on way to Hamilton County, Nebraska, where they arrived July 1, 1871. They lived in Stockham with George's brother for a while before they homesteaded near what is now Giltner. (Town had several names: Lerton, Huntington, Bromfield -- before being named in honor of a much-loved Presbyterian missionary, the Rev. Henry M. Giltner, who served Bromfield and Stockham churches and some in between. George and Mary are buried in Lerton Cemetery at the southeast edge of Giltner. Their son Royal C. Jackett(born Nov. 16, 1874), who was killed in an auto accident in Jan. 25, 1931, is buried beside them. There's also a Royal W. Jackett, born in 1848 and died in Nov 1874, who must have been George's brother, possibly the farmer brother from Stockham. I have more info about George E., but don't find that Lester had a brother named Benjamin. George and Mary had other children -- James M., George Cameron, Margaret "Maggie" M. and Edna Blanche Kilborne. No record of where they are buried, but some left the county and the state. George Cameron Jackett, who married Myrtle Brock on Sep 25, 1901, died June 27, 1954, in Mountain View, Mo. He was born Oct. 26, 1878, in Giltner. George C. and Myrtle's son Gordon also died in Mountain View, Mo., in April 1958. James M. was born Feb 24, 1872, in Giltner, and conceived on Nebraska Soil, and died Nov. 4, 1959, in Boulder, Nebr., and was buried at Genoa, Nebr. He married Mary Anon on Jan 1, 1901, in Giltner. Their children were Esther Johnson, Ruby Allen, and George. I have lived in San Diego since 1956. but used to live in Aurora and Giltner. My grandfather, Thomas Salmon, is buried in Lerton Cemetery. I remember seeing the name Royal Jackett on the tombstone for many years, and then I was reading the Aurora News-Register dated first week in February 1931 that he was killed in a car crash. So, from then on, I felt that I have known him when I see the name on the stone. Hope this helps. Where do you live now? I take it that you are a descendant of LeRoy?
