Hello: Michael and Mary Knapp Jackett migrated to Wi.from Washington Co.,N.Y.,spending approx.1 yr.in Illinois enroute. While in Ill., Geo.E. was born. They arrived in Wi. on June 4, 1847 and remained there all their lives. They are buried in the Verona cemetery. They had 6 children in the order of: George E.,R.W.(Royal Washington),J.M.(Jerome),Mary Louisa(Foster),Charles M.,and Homer. By census records the bros.Geo.E.,R.W.,and J.M.all lived in Hamilton Co.,Ne. during the 1880's into the early 1900's and Homer in the Glenville precinct of Clay Co.,Ne.where he was listed as a barber. I have a letter that R.W. wrote to his family back in Wi.dated Oct 30,1874,which would have been less than a month before he died.He stated that he had been suffering from cronic diarrhea for 3 wks, that he was thinking about giving up farming and had been elected assessor again. It would have had to of been R.W. that Geo.E. and Mary would have stayed with when they got to Ne.as J.M. shows up in the 1880 U.S.census Union,Hamilton Co.,Ne.with a wife Frances E.,a son Elmer age 4,dau Mary F.age 2,both born in Iowa. This looks like they couldn't have been in Ne.before 1878.I also have a letterhead of J.M.Jacket,breeder of Chester White Hogs,Lake Wilson,Minn.on which Lake Wilson is crossed out and Genoa,Colo.is written in.I have a copy of a land patent for 160 acres that James M.got from the U.S.Govt.in 1914 in Lincoln Co.,Colo.. That is the county where Genoa,Colo.is located. His dau.Mary Esther married Carl Rudolph Johnson July 24,1923 in Genoa,Lincoln Co.,Colo.per the Inter Genealogical Index/N American Film#1985736. So did James M. die in Boulder Ne.or Colo.? Was he buried in Genoa,Ne. or Colo? My ggrandfather was Charles M.who spent all his life farming the home farm near Springdale,Dane Co.,Wi. Rex is your family related to the Jackett's and if so how. You are sure going to save me a lot of time later this month. We are going to Colo.and had planned to stop at Giltner and look up the cemetery to see if I could find Geo.E. and Mary's headstone to photograph. Do you know if R.W.(Royal)is also buried in Giltner? I live in Clarion,Ia.,so have been to Verona and Madison,Wi. several times to do family research. I have quite a lot of material on Michael and his brothers and some on his parents that I'm willing to share.I would like any information I could on the Jackett family. Rex, you said that you had more on Geo. E.'s family.Would you let me know what you have? Thanking everyone in advance for information recieved.
