This family is found in the 1850 Census for Hancock Co., IL: Joseph Jackson, 32, b. VA, occupation: Cooper; Maria, 31, b. VA; John M., 12, b. OH; Melissa, 10, b. OH; William J., 4, b. IA, and James, 3, b. IA. Hancock Co., IL borders MO and IA, so this makes some sense. In 1840, at Ohio Twp, Monroe County, OH: Joseph Jackson with a family corresponding to Maria, John and Melissa (10001 10001). There are other Jackson families in both Monroe and nearby Belmont County, Ohio. This area is near Wheeling, WV, along the Ohio River, and logically en route from VA to IL. I can not locate any of the Jacksons in 1860, but in 1853, Melissa Jackson married Lewis Albert Beers at Fort Madison, Iowa. In 1880, 1900 and 1910, Melissa states that her father was born in MD and her mother in VA. Can anyone help identify this Jackson family? We finally figured out Lewis' ancestry, but Melissa eludes us. Thanks much, Jo Ann Kaufman beerscentral@roadrunner.com Notify Administrator about this message?
