Hi all,
I am trying to find the origin of one of my ancestors, Elisabeth (Lisette) Paul-Michel, as her name appears in mariage records. Interestingly, her name appears as Elisabeth Jacob on her will.
Here's what I have:
The earliest record I have on Elisabeth dates from Dec. 13 1782, in Laprairie(Québec), when she gave birth to Jean-Georges Caud, son of Balthasar Koch. Ancestor Balthasar Koch came from Germany ABT 1777 - like thousand of others -to fight the "U.S. rebels" at the request of England's King George V.
Then, on Feb. 19 1790, Elisabeth marries another German, Jean-Baptiste (Johann) Wagner in Quebec City, in a Protestant Church. They had at least three sons: Jean-Henri (1790), Philippe (1791) and Jean-Baptiste (1793).
Elisabeth died on March 31st 1825 in St-Gilles-de-Lotbinière, Quebec. Her name shows as Elisabeth Jacob on her will.
Some believe that she is the Elisabeth Paul Michel who was deported from Acadia to the U.S. and that came back later to Canada. I doubt, for several reasons that are too lenghty to explain here. I rather believe that she too came from Germany or North-Eastern France.
Any help to find who elusive Elisabeth really was and where she came from will be much appreciated.
